Back Pain & Sciatica Treatment in McKinney & Allen, TX
Low back pain is one of the most common reasons people see a physical therapist, and most of it responds well to the right movement and hands-on care. I treat it in your home, one-on-one, for a full hour.
Sound familiar?
Stiffness or pain when you get out of bed
Pain that shoots into your buttock, thigh or below the knee
Numbness or tingling in your leg or foot
Sitting at your desk or in the car makes it worse
Bending, lifting kids or picking things up feels risky
Flare-ups that keep coming back
What usually drives back pain & sciatica
Irritated nerves (sciatica). When a nerve in the low back gets irritated, often near a disc, pain and tingling can travel down the leg. It usually settles with the right movement.
Disc sensitivity. Disc bulges are common, even in people with no pain. When a disc is irritated, some positions feel worse and others feel better.
Stiff joints and guarded muscles. After pain starts, the body braces. Joints stiffen, muscles tighten and movement gets cautious, which keeps the cycle going.
Load vs. capacity. Long hours sitting, a sudden jump in lifting or training, or poor sleep can push your back past what it’s ready for.
How I treat back pain & sciatica
Every session is a full hour, one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
Find the cause: A full evaluation of how you move, your strength and your nerves to pinpoint what’s driving your pain.
Calm it down: Positions and movements that ease pain, hands-on manual therapy, and dry needling when it helps.
Build it back: Progressive strengthening for your hips, core and back, so everyday tasks stop feeling risky.
Keep it away: A plan for sitting, lifting, sleep and flare-ups, so you know exactly what to do if it comes back.
Why treating it at home helps
I see how you get out of your own bed, in and out of your car, and how your desk is set up.
Your home program is built with what you actually have. No gym required.
No painful drive or waiting room when your back is flared up.
When to see a doctor first
New trouble controlling your bladder or bowels
Numbness in the groin or inner thighs
Leg weakness that is getting worse
Back pain with fever, unexplained weight loss or a history of cancer
Back pain after a major fall or car accident
If any of these apply, seek medical care right away. Physical therapy can come after.
Common questions
Should I rest my back or keep moving?
For most back pain, gentle movement helps more than bed rest. I’ll show you which movements are right for your back and how much is enough.
Do I need an MRI first?
Usually not. Most back pain can be assessed and treated without imaging. If your evaluation suggests you need one, I’ll tell you and point you to the right doctor.
Can physical therapy help sciatica?
Yes. Physical therapy is a first-line treatment for most sciatica. We focus on calming the irritated nerve, then building strength so it doesn’t come back.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on how long you’ve had pain and what’s driving it. After your evaluation, I’ll give you an honest estimate and a clear plan.
