Knee & Hip Pain Treatment in McKinney & Allen, TX

3 min read

Knee and hip pain can turn stairs, walks and workouts into a negotiation. Whether it’s arthritis, a running injury or recovery after surgery, I build your plan around the stairs, floors and activities in your real life.

Sound familiar?

  • Pain going up or down stairs

  • Stiffness when you stand up after sitting

  • Knee pain when you squat, kneel or run

  • Aching on the outside of your hip when you lie on it

  • Deep hip or groin pain when you walk

  • Swelling, or a feeling the joint might give way

What usually drives knee & hip pain

Arthritis. Joint changes are common with age, but pain isn’t inevitable. Stronger muscles and the right activity level make a big difference.

Kneecap pain. Pain around or behind the kneecap often comes from more load on the knee than it’s currently ready for.

Tendon irritation. Tendons around the knee and hip get sensitive when training or daily activity ramps up too fast.

After surgery. Joint replacements and ligament repairs need a guided plan to get motion, strength and confidence back.

How I treat knee & hip pain

Every session is a full hour, one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

  1. Find the cause: A full look at how you walk, squat and climb stairs, plus strength and mobility testing.

  2. Calm the joint: Manual therapy, dry needling when it helps, and smart adjustments to your activity.

  3. Build strength: Progressive strengthening for your hips, thighs and calves, the muscles that protect your joints.

  4. Get back to it: A step-by-step return to walking, running, sport or whatever you want to get back to.

Why treating it at home helps

  • We practice on your actual stairs, couch and car, the places you need your knees and hips to work.

  • After surgery, you skip the drive to a clinic while you’re still healing.

  • Your home program is built with what you have, from a step to a sturdy chair.

When to see a doctor first

  • You can’t put weight on the leg after a fall or injury

  • A hot, red, swollen joint, especially with fever

  • New calf pain and swelling, especially after surgery or a long trip

  • Hip pain after a fall, especially in older adults

  • A joint that looks out of place, or locks and won’t move

If any of these apply, seek medical care right away.

Common questions

Is it safe to exercise with knee arthritis?

For most people, yes. The right exercise is one of the best treatments for arthritis. I’ll help you find the right type and amount.

Can you help me recover after a joint replacement?

Yes. Rehab at home is a great fit after knee or hip replacement. We work on motion, strength, walking and stairs, following your surgeon’s guidelines.

Should I stop running if my knee hurts?

Not always. Often it’s about adjusting how much and how often you run, not stopping completely. We’ll build a plan that keeps you moving.

Do I need a referral after surgery?

You can start without one. Texas law allows up to 30 consecutive days of treatment without a referral, and many post-surgery patients already have one from their surgeon.

The Blueprint Physical Therapy provides in-home physical therapy across McKinney, Allen, Plano, Frisco, Richardson and Dallas with Dr. Ralph Lee, PT, DPT. In-network with BCBS, with self-pay options. No referral needed for up to 30 days.
